This week’s theme is “A Day in the Life”. Both films center around one man’s journey that takes place in a single day. Spike Lee has his grounded take with “25th Hour” starring Edward Norten, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Barry Pepper, and Rosario Dawson. Meanwhile, Martin Scorcese takes a different approach with the surreal and comedic “After Hours” starring Griffin Dunne, Rosanna Arquette, Linda Fiorentino, John Heard, Catherine O’Hara, Teri Gar, and Cheech and Chong.
Despite the films different approaches, they both nail the aesthetic of showing how one day can be so impactful in somebody’s life. And the question, as always, is who did it better? Who was the one who captured the essence of how such a single and important day can impact so many people? Spike’s down-to-Earth take? Or Marty’s surrealist bender?
Jeff, Steve, and Nate discuss all this and more on this week’s show.
